It’s been so long since I’ve been carded that I didn’t even think about it. My hotel bar closed. I brought cash and an Amex card to another bar in case I got rolled.

“You got ID, brother?”

“Shit.”

“You staying at the Burgundy? That’s great. I need ID.”

“This is a smoking bar?”

“Yep.”

“I’ll be back”

I still get carded at 30. I don’t even have a baby face.

My beard is 1/3 grey.

A lot of places in Tennessee ID because corporate policy. I think in Tennessee it’s if they look 30 or olderz

I have a beard too. I’ve learned that policy is policy and I don’t fight it.

In New Jersey, it’s regardless of appearance. I don’t mind except it guarantees that 40 year olds will make a joke about not looking 21 and I’ll die inside.

I’m in my 30s, but I look much younger, so I’m always surprised when I *don’t* get carded.

I think the way most places word it is “if they’re not obviously over 30...”

I still get carded and I usually have a baby with me when I buy liquor.

Clerks look at me all judgy.

“Yes, he’s the reason I drink. Good day”

I was the same. I never got carded in New York or Philadelphia. Some places it’s just policy though.

I occasionally get this, despite having plenty of grey hair.

In all likelihood, I was drinking legally before the bouncer was born.

I wonder what they’d do with me if I didn’t have my ID - rules are rules, I guess.

People just assume I’m 30ish. I get shocked looks whenever I tell someone my age. It might be because my internal age is closer to 50.

The bars I go to, don’t bother (I’m 22). I go there so much, they just know. The case in my small town bar is they don’t give a shit.

Ha the land of the free... No problem for an 18 year old to go kill people on the other side of the world or for an 18 year old girl to get ejaculated onto on camera by 20 men, but god forbid they enjoy a little beer after that!! :)

Sadly, I’m to the point where I’m surprised when I do get carded... and I’m under 30. (I look like I’m almost 40, though, so...) I do still get carded at Kroger, but IIRC their guideline is 40... and it’s not reliable.

Of course, there’s also the time where a friend of mine (who’s a couple years older than I am) was buying beer, got carded, and then the cashier tells me, “oh, I thought she was your daughter”. FML.

Or the time where I met my dad at my usual Thai restaurant, and the owner thought he was my brother.

Everyone in the LA area seems to be carding now, and it’s annoying. Or, it was, but now I just get my license out before I order so it’s nice and easy.

Sometimes it’s more about policies than what age you appear to be. I went to a baseball game a couple of weeks ago and got carded. I’m not only 51 years old but also have plenty of gray in my beard to attest for every year.

Looked 12 until I was 40 - got carded very last time at 34 ... I insisted on going out to my car to get my license to show the guy. QED.

I’m 23 and I get carded at school but that’s mostly it. Many places now are required to do it even if you are clearly 21+

oh yeah, once they’ve asked there’s no getting away with it.

I’m never without my ID so it’s not a big deal. Just a bit funny when they’ll have a sign up saying “If you look under 25 we need ID”

and I ask them “do I look under 25?” and they say “no”

I was in a liquor store when a woman came in with a three or four year old and what was probably a one year old. Some lady whispered something to the cashier about bringing children in a liquor store. The cashier responded by saying, “She’s welcome the bring them in. It’s better than the people that leave them to sit in the car in the parking lot. Hell with two that young I’d need a couple drinks after bedtime too.” I like the staff in that place.

True story. I’m 17 and go into the liquor store on 16th and Capitol. My friends always send me in because I look the oldest. Clerk says, “you got ID?” I feel my pockets like a dumb ass, and all I can come up with is, “it’s it my wallet in my other pants.” “Well, how old are you?”, he asks. “24", I answer. “Okay”. He gives me the booze. I still don’t believe it to this day.

I live in Virginia and liquor stores are state run. There’s a small convenience store run by an Asian family down the road from my parents house. Throughout high school, my friends and I would come in late at night, trying to by 30 racks of natty ice. I usually got sent in because I had a beard in my junior year of high school (I’m middle eastern lol) and about half the time the old “forgot my ID” trick would work.

I just assume I’m going to get carded. I’m well on the way to 40, and yet still look like I’m 20 something. This is something women like to have happen way more than men....

Last time I was behind a counter selling alcohol in TN, we were drilled that it was not just the business that could suffer but the person behind the counter could be arrested if we sold to an underage person. Customer inconvenience versus jail time, customer loses every time. It was known (or believed, at least) that undercover police posing as underage buyers would make the rounds occasionally.
